Parenting
Being
a parent may possibly be the most challenging and rewarding
life experience there is. Parenting a child has its ups and
downs. Every parent has hopes for their child and fears these
dreams won’t be fulfilled. There are times when the experience
of parenting runs smoothly and times when a parent simply needs
help with knowing what to do or say to their child.
Danielle
Jagoda, Marriage and Family Therapist, assists children, teens,
couples, and families in creating positive relationships. “I”
messages, statements of feeling, and reflective listening are
taught. Parents develop skills in setting limits and boundaries,
learn to be consistent, and to set both natural and logical
consequences when disciplining. Danielle provides psychoeducation
to teach parents the importance of noticing the positive and
praising children rather than only spending time on punishing
or reprimanding. Modeling desired behavior is encouraged. Parents
learn to include children and adolescents in some of the decision
making, which builds self-esteem and gives them a voice in the
family. Psychotherapy allows parents and children / teens to
feel they have a safe place to explore feelings and develop
healthy relationships.
